	Interesting idea, but Richard isn't actually Clark's direct boss if I remember the setup correctly - Perry would have to give the instruction, authorize their accounts department to pay Clark's expenses, etc. You might want to change things a little to put him in charge while Perry is on medical leave or something.

	I wanted to leave that nebulous since the story is from Lois's POV and she's so upset she isn't thinking - Obviously Perry approved the assignment and that's what he wanted to tell Lois about when she stormed out. Perry would have (equally obviously) taken steps to make sure Clark would be as safe as possible on his new assignment. Richard, on the other hand, didn't even try to explain any of that to Lois - maybe he'd never met Mad Dog Lane in person - and so confirmed all her worst suspicions about the situation.

	Delightful tale. I see you've done a number where in Richard comes out with feet of clay. This is one of the better ones, in that what he does is much nastier and make the breakup more credible.
