I still can't get over how amazing this story is both in plot and writing. The entire scene with Jor-El and Luthor.. and I was SO sure Luthor was going to die, but eh.. I'm sure he has some other possibly worse things ahead of him. And Jor-El will alter his memory! But oh no..Clark!

That chapter had my heart pounding!  Cool

Nice part. So Clark still has to take the long fall. Nice. I hope you aren't planning to end it anytime soon.

I'm glad to see Jor-El didn't let the dog die, I like dogs.

How long will it take for Clark to retrieve them? Oh, and when the Kryptonite is finally purged from the matrix, will it keep growing and eventually recreate Krypton? Or is that a spoiler?

It was a fun one to write.  I'll point out that my take on Luthor is someone who astonishingly narcissistic, who really believes that he's the smartest man on the planet and expects everyone else to acknowledge that and give him accolades for his genius.  Of course, he's also impatient and too full of himself to see any flaws in his plans, so it's enraging for him to be outsmarted or to have someone point out his mistakes or that he's not all that after all.

Well, this was the end... of Act II.  I've still got enough in my head for a short third act.Wink

They won't get left there indefinitely, but I'd expect the criminals retrieval to be a low priority for the next little bit.  They will be brought 'home', and I have some interesting thoughts about how we do that.  As for 'New Krypton' - that process is going to take awhile, but perhaps we'll get some clues about its final configuration in the coming chapters.  Cool

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

Nice chapter.  I think you feel the same way about Luthor that I do.  I agree wholeheartedly with what you responded to jj.  Luthor is incredibility narcissistic and lays blame for any of his shortcomings onto someone else.  That is why he hates Superman so passionately.  He feels Superman has usurped his rightful place in history.

I was hoping you would have handled the purging of the landmass differently so Superman didn’t have to almost die like in the movie but I guess you are trying to keep many of the key points similar.  Thus the falling to earth but the hospital scene will have to be different since he already knows the secret of Jason being his son.  Should be interesting, I look forward to what happens next.

I am still looking forward to just how Perry and the other 'in' crowd handle their new knowledge.   Wink

Yep, we'll be taking a slightly different approach on that, while still tracking with the spirit of the Superman Returns story.  Some deviations are required to reflect the reality of this story's universe.

We'll also catch up with the others in the 'in' club very soon.

Thanks for the comments.   Cool

Huh I could've sworn I responded to this new chapter after I read it last night.
I must've been more tired than I thought...

I doubt that, since without the sea water to provide mass and the Earth's EM field to provide energy, the construct would be bereft of the requirements to continue growth. Sure, it could tap solar energy, but the vacuum of space would lack the richness of matter that Earth would provide.
Any growth would be greatly slowed, possibly to the point of it taking a couple of centuries to do so (the survivors of Kandor used asteroids to supply the extra mass needed in Action Comics 873 and Supergirl 37, if I recall correctly.)

Of course, this is Mr. Beeto's fic, and if he decides that the Kryptonian sunstone crystals are more efficient in the energy/mass conversion ratio than that, then so be it.  Cool

Food for thought, but I wasn't planned to regrow Krypton.  That still leaves a number of possibilities, though they wouldn't likely come to fruition until after Kal-El's grandchildren have joined him in his mission.

Thought so.
However, being your fic and all, I wasn't about to make any such presumptions.

It's like the flannel-wearing one said when someone asked him exactly how fast the Millennium Falcon could go through hyperspace:
"Ships go through hyperspace at the speed of plot."

Of course, he also told a reporter who asked him what species Yoda really was, he said: "For pity's sake, he's a frog! Get over it!"

Very interesting update.  I thought for sure Jor-El was sending Lex to the Phantom Zone, but stasis and an attitude adjustment/mind wipe would work too.  I sure hope one of the kids catch Clark before he hits the ground.  Also, I can't wait to see Lois' conversation with the General. Wink  That should be VERY interesting.

The 'Due Process' requirement would delay a sentence to the phantom zone, too...  Though, there's still no telling what fate has in store for the bad guys, after they get thawed out.

Thanks for the feedback.   Smiley

I have a question about Lois's father. How is he going to react when he is told that Clark Kent is Jason's father?

Not sure I've got that figured out yet, but we'll find out soon, I think.
