Sad to see Clark didn't take up the Superman identity once again, but it's nice to image Jason/Jay as Superman II.

And I easily felt myself slipping into Jimmy's shoes in this chapter, after all, who (besides the "everything today SUCKS!!!" internet fanboys) didn't feel that way (seeing Lois and Clark back in the Planet) in the theaters watching Superman Returns?

Okay, I now have a confession - this is what happens when somebody writes a story that annoys the hell out of me by ending it without actually ending it or by ignoring how things actually work. (I have killed Clark for less.)

Over at fanfiction.net someone started a really interesting story about a nobody figuring out that Superman worked in the Daily Planet Building. Luthor gets the information and by the end of chapter 4, Clark has been exposed and is bleeding out on the floor of the newsroom.

So far so good - nice action sequences, nice set up.

Then:
Chapter 5, which has been taken down, was Clark waking up from a horrible nightmare about Luthor finding out... WTF?

In my house we call stories that end like that 'screen kickers' as in, you see that ending on TV and you want to punch out the set.

So, now you know the rest of the story.

Ah, so that's what happened...  I remember seeing a story like that there, and wondered what happened to Chapter 5...  It can't have been up long, so there must have some choice reviews for pulling a Dallas.

BTW:  Same thing happens in my house sometimes, though the frustration is usually over a good show "Jumping the Shark", or the frustrating number of holes/missed opportunities in a work with great potential.

That's why I don't watch TV anymore, at least not on a regular basis (I watch certain shows my friends recommend, online.)

With today's lack of opening montage and theme music, and the network's over-reliance on "reality TV" programming, I'd quickly either need retailers to start carrying the foam-rubber "TV Brick" again, or I'd have to replace my set on a regular basis...

With a lot of television producers trying to milk their cash cows for all they're worth, they have a strong motivation to drag out storylines in perpetuity, and that leads to disappointing endings.  You get Dallas moments and other such 'rewinds' to keep things from moving forward.  Series like Babylon 5 which start with a planned end are the exception (and the producers still tried to impose a season beyond that planned end, which fell short of expectations).  I have much better luck with mini-series.  SciFi's Dune and TNT's Gettysberg, for instance, have been wonderfully enjoyable.

This isn't a problem that I'd normally expect from FanFiction, however.  With some notable exceptions, the problem there is more likely to be because the author ran out of steam and never finished the story, not that we'll get a bad ending.  That makes it all the more frustrating when we do read a bad ending.  Thank goodness we have some authors here like our Librarian who can fix those rare bad endings.

Apparently J Michael Strazhinsky (sp?) was made an offer he couldn't refuse to extend the series one more year. Would you believe the man actually hung out on the fan boards and game boards?

Another thing that happens when I've run across someone who blatantly ignores reality as the rest of us know it (no one here, BTW) is I will write an article for the Big Apricot and/or The World of Lois & Clark detailing how whatever would work based on how the real world does it.

Hence, a page on the (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

That was such a wonderful story! I really like the glimpses further into the future, especially when Lois and Clark finally come back to the Planet. Thank you for sharing it with us! Smiley
