That was short and sweet.  When you start with nothing more than a one word prompt that is what most will do, write a scene around the prompt rather than create an entire story.

That is what you did but it really shows how Superman is set apart from the world as a whole.  He is so different but he doesn't feel that makes him any better than humanity, only different.

I know sometimes when I write or read about Superman I think of him almost as a bird.  As strong as he is, he is as fragile in some ways  as the rest of us earth bound creatures.  Hmmm

Thanks.  Ha ha    glad I didn't have to wait on the Planet Posting.  I don't blame you for taking control of your story and posting it here with your own timing.

Reposting my comment here.   I saved my comment in a word file so I could repost it when you made the FDK thread.

Someone commented in Shadows that I liked to describe Kal-El/Clark as a great bird.

Heck, I've even had him sleeping in a tree.

And I in one of my stories compared him to a tree referring to an interview Barbara Walter's did years ago where she asked Katharine Hepburn "If you were a tree, what kind would you be?” It caused quite a stir at the time.  I thik it was one of those Oscar shows.

After Clark states he feels better after some fresh air and sunshine I had my Sam Lane say the following:

“By the way Superman if Clark or Lois ever does another Superman interview remind them to ask, ‘If you were a tree, what kind would you be'?”

As the succubus, Rachel, in Clive Barker's movie Nightbreed (an adaptation of his novella, Cabal) said to Aaron (Cabal) Boone's girlfriend Lori:

"To be able to fly? To be smoke? Or a wolf? To know the night and live in it forever, that's not so bad.
You call us monsters, but when you dream? You dream of flying, and changing, and living without death. You envy us. And what you envy -"

"-we destroy..."

Which, seen through those eyes, Clark's greatest strength isn't his super-strength, or his ability to fly. It's the ability to do that and to generate inspiration instead of envy and jealousy.

You're absolutely right. His real strength is that he is capable of inspiring hope rather than inspiring fear.
