FDK - It's Not Easy Being Dead 4

You always do the funeral scenes so well and we easy imagine ourselves bravely enduring the last goodbye for a beloved hero.  You've paid a lot of attention to detail, and it's as carefully planned as any real celebrity funeral I've observed.

I also thought Richard's reaction was dead on, which probably comes as no surprise.  The secrets revealed and painful reminder of the old arguments would not have been easy to endure, especially since a "fiancé has no legal standing as next of kin."  That must have struck home in a big bad way after Lois and Jason's apparent deaths.  And then to find they're alive in hiding...

In any case, well done.  I look forward to the next installment.

Thank you. I admit to lifting the funeral I wrote for 'A World Without Superman.' I was rather peeved that Stern didn't do much on Superman's funeral in The Death and Life of Superman.

In NYC (and other older cities as well) police and fire funerals are full of tradition and ceremony and little touches that have been handed down over generations. I can't imagine it would be any different in Metropolis. And I can't imagine MPD and MFD not claiming him as one of their own. (There was some serious behind the scenes negotiations going on between the two departments, I'm sure.)  Grin

As for Richard, he's not an easy one - he's not a bad person otherwise Lois wouldn't have stayed with him. And of course Bruce is rooting for family...

As for the next installment - NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow.

Richard's a tough one to deal with for just that reason - Lois wouldn't have stayed with him if he was a cretin.  It's a tough balancing act to realistically (and fairly) present his reaction to the previously unspoken truths and to represent a new dynamic created by Clark's return and still preserve Richard's good and valiant character.

I think you handled him well, and I'd be interested in seeing glimpses of his life post-Lois - hopefully, he'll find happiness.
